Playground Glow-Up Project
Thanks to the recent dues increase, one of our first major projects is a full-scale refresh of both Hidden Harbor playgrounds — at Lake Meadows and Sand Dunes. Our goal is to make these spaces safer, more beautiful, and more fun for years to come.
Lake Meadows Playground (Near the Pool)
The larger of our two playgrounds, Lake Meadows is connected to the pool area by the iconic land bridge. Planned updates include:
- Boulder Retention Work – Replacing aging retaining walls with natural stacked boulders for durability and a beautiful, organic look.
- Natural Stone Playground Border – Containing playground surfacing and defining play boundaries.
- Lush Planting Design – A mix of larger flowering shrubs, evergreen anchors, and native perennials to add color and life year-round, including around the hillside slide.
- Welcoming Entryway – Natural boulders and cheerful plantings at the land bridge entrance.
- Play Surface Refresh – Grading and adding fresh sawdust for a safe, cushioned play surface.
Sand Dunes Playground
Sand Dunes features two distinct play areas: the main playground and the swingset area. Both will see major enhancements:
Main Playground:
- Boulder Retention & Entry Markers – Stabilizing slopes and highlighting pathway entry points with natural stone.
- Planting Design – Adding a flowering tree, evergreen anchors, and colorful perennials at corners and along borders.
- Natural Stone Border – Containing play surface material and providing a defined edge.
- Pea Gravel Pathway – A winding, stone-edged walkway through the playground, accented with plantings.
- Play Surface Refresh – Grading and adding fresh sawdust.
Swingset Area:
- Boulder Retention Work – Stacked natural boulders to stabilize the hillside.
- Natural Stone Border – Defining play zones and keeping the surfacing contained.
- Planting Design – Flowering shrubs, evergreens, and perennials for year-round beauty.
- Play Surface Refresh – Grading and adding fresh sawdust.
Project Cost & Contractor
This project represents an investment made possible by our updated budget and careful spending in 2024 by our board under direction from president Marty Malone. The work will be completed by Monolith Landscape Design, a local company known for blending functionality and beauty with long-lasting results.
We can’t wait to see our children, grandchildren, and neighbors enjoying these revitalized spaces! Work will begin soon, and we’ll keep you updated on the progress.
